Concrete counter-tops are both practical and stylish.
High quality concrete counter-tops will not stain or crack and they provide a durable surface for any room inside or out.
These counter-tops give homeowners a great way to express themselves...they can be combined with glass, marbles, coins, rocks,
granite, or any meaningful item that reflects the homeowners interest. You can choose a color to match the rest of the
home decor or you can use it to pull in accents from the room. Concrete also gives the advantage of molding it into
various shapes. No other material allows for the many shades
of color, texture, shape, and style that concrete does. Because each piece is handmade and customized by the homeowner,
each piece is unique!
Where can concrete be used? Anywhere
other materials or hard surfaces might be used, both interior and exterior such as countertops, floors, walls, baths, fireplace
fronts, shower stalls, vanity tops and tables, sinks, bar tops, barbeque surrounds, patios and building facades. Does the color vary? Yes, since the product is hand made, color and texture may vary. This is part of
the uniqueness of concrete which is what makes each piece unique from its counterparts and individual to the client’s
application. Why choose concrete countertops? Concrete is the preferred choice for those who are seeking a different
look or a distinct shape that can be as unique and as individual as the owner. Not only is concrete durable and strong, but
it is the most versatile material available; it can be molded and shaped with great precision and delicacy. Do Concrete Countertops crack or chip? Hairline cracks, though uncommon, can occur in narrow areas and
are usually considered an enhancing characteristic. They occur rarely, but when present, do not compromise the structural
integrity of the piece due to the integral re-inforcement present in all Sanctum Concrete Countertops. Chipping is very unlikely
with Precast Concrete. However, if you hit the concrete with a sharp hard object or dropped something of very heavy nature
on a corner, chips would be possible as it would be with any type of countertop. If this occurs, it is possible to patch the
concrete. Are concrete countertops sealed? Yes, the standard selections are sealed with a polymeric penetrating
sealer which provides protection while maintaining as low a build and natural appearance as possible. This gives good stain
resistance while still maintaining the tactile quality of the product. A selection of a custom finish, such as polished, will
include a different type of penetrant that will require its own care and maintenance procedures. Do concrete countertops stain? They can, but it is unlikely due to the chemical resistance of the sealer.
However, concrete is not meant to remain immaculate- as with many natural stones, marks are generally considered an enhancing
characteristic as the concrete develops a patina with use. Periodic waxing can greatly improve the concrete’s resistance
to day to day spillage and use. Can I cut on concrete countertops? Cutting on your countertops can compromise the sealer, resulting
in increased susceptibility to staining. It is suggested to cut on a wood or composite board so as not to ruin your knives-
consider a custom recess in the countertop to incorporate a distinctive cutting board. Are concrete countertops rough? Concrete countertops are nothing like conventionally finished concrete.
The surface is hand-polished with diamond pads to a smooth profile. Can concrete countertops be supported with traditional cabinetry? Yes. Standard concrete weighs almost
the same as granite- at a thickness of 1 1/2", they will weigh approx. 18 lbs. per square foot. No special reinforcement
is normally required besides a ledger against walls where large spans may occur or if thicker countertops are selected and
the load capacity of the floor is exceeded.
